Meet the Band

  • Dan Shukis

    (Guitar, Harmonica, Vocals)

Dan Shukis is a co-founding member of the band. Originally from the Chicago suburbs, Dan grew up playing piano at a young age and has been a life long music enthusiast. After studying English Lit at University of Colorado Boulder, Dan took lessons at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago and immediately began writing original songs. Dan’s personal taste in music stretches from indie alternative, 80’s new wave, house music, and classic rock, while his style in Moonstone Quill pulls from traditional folk, bluegrass, and country genres.

  • Nate Spencer

    (Mandolin, Vocals)

Nate Spencer is a co-founding member of the band, originally from Greenwood, Indiana. He has always been a guitarist primarily, starting at the age of 10. Nate spent the extra time during the pandemic learning to play and sing over 120 songs in his house in the mountains. He picked up the mandolin in late 2020 and Moonstone Quill became an idea that night. 5 days later, they played their first show at Rocky Mountain Underground in Breckenridge, Colorado. Nate now spends his time writing songs, playing shows, and working to make Moonstone Quill the best band around the Rockies.

  • Nick Beato

    (Bass, Vocals)

Vermont born Nick Beato carved out his niche playing Bass for Moonstone Quill. Throughout his musical journey Beato has focused on several genres but found his preference when he moved to Colorado and focused on his bluegrass career.  The driving factor propelling Beato in his musical lifestyle is the sense of community he finds in various musical groups and organizations. Whether it's attending open jams, sitting in with friends or gigging with Moonstone Quill you can find Nick Beato in the venues of Summit County almost any night of the week.

  • Ian Hunt

    (Pedal Steel Guitar, Vocals)

A Chicago native,  Ian Hunt is a life long multi instrumentalist with a focus on stringed instruments. First trained classically on guitar and voice as a child, Ian explored a multitude of musical stylings through his youth, playing guitar, drums, bass and keys in rock, funk, jam and jazz groups in the greater Chicagoland area. Ian moved to the Denver area in 2015, and discovered his love for the unique sound of the pedal steel guitar shortly after. Combining classical western, cowboy, and honky-tonk stylings with a modern jam and psychedelic rock approach, Ian is bringing the unique pedal steel sound to the bluegrass and folk scene in the high country Rockies.
